All of a sudden, my way of organizing became easy and fun! I hope that, with sharing my experience, people will see the beauty of bullet journaling. You as well! Excited to learn more about bullet journaling? Then keep on reading!
What is bullet journaling?
For as long as I can remember, people always say that writing things down is the easiest way to remember. Think about an agenda, notebook, or simple sticky notes all across the room. A bullet journal is a new medium in this list, enabling a person to express themselves without boundaries. A bullet journal is a special type of notebook, filled with dotted pages. Those dots are your framework for the art you create in your journal, and it gives you all the freedom you need to be yourself. You can make your own setup, and add a new weekly page every week. The language we use in a bullet journal is Rapid Logging. This means that every sentence is short, sweet and bulleted, resulting in a list of tasks or events.
You can keep your journal as simple as you want, or go all out and see it as your little sketchbook. The possibilities are endless, which makes bullet journaling not only a necessity to be organized, but also an art, a hobby and a passion.
If you want to learn more about the practice of bullet journaling, I recommend you visit this page.
How to start?
It is a practice, which is something you need to get used to in order to implement it in your life. The most important thing is DON’T RUSH IT! When you are asking too much from yourself, you will find yourself struggling to find time to work on your bullet journal. As it is something you design yourself, it is a necessity to take your time, and don’t force yourself to do more than possible. It is easy to watch fancy videos of people making incredibly beautiful journals. Just keep in mind that they needed to practice as well! You know what they say: practice makes perfect.
Also, when you are browsing the web for tools to use, you come across lots of fancy pens and attributes. This is not necessary to start at all! Starting off with a basic dotted notebook, simple pencil and pen will do. This way you can also find out if it is your cup of tea.
And lastly, inspiration! Just Google or search on YouTube for Bullet Journal inspo. Within minutes, your head will be filled with ideas to start your own journal, and your mind will be triggered to come up with its own inspiration as well.
So, how can a bullet journal keep me organized?
To really experience the benefits of bullet journaling, it is important to know why you are doing it. For example, I have a bullet journal as I want to stay more organized, create my own spaces to write things down, and to be creative every single day. It is always good to reflect on why you do certain things, to see if it might benefit you or if it is something you should skip. When you figure out why you are keeping a bullet journal, and you are just as excited about it as I am, I will share the benefits of bullet journaling and how it keeps me organized.
Overview of everything you need
With a simple agenda, I always feel like there is a lack of space. I want to fill in so much more than is given in those standard agendas, which is why bullet journaling is amazing. I can keep track of everything I want to, like my mood, my sleep, how much water I drink and what my habits are. This way, you will not only have an overview of your week, but also of your behaviour! This might give you some really interesting insight in how your mood can be affected by some stuff, and can help you to get to know yourself better as well.
Opportunity to express yourself
If you love drawing, please, start bullet journaling already! It will enable you to draw daily, and to make it useful as well. When you get home from a long day at school, it is nice to have some me-time. Just take a blank page in your journal and start drawing. It will calm your mind, as well as it gives the opportunity to clear your head. You can keep it as simple as you want, or go crazy with handlettering, fancy fonts and funny doodles. It is all up to you!
System that works for you
A bullet journal is just a notebook filled with dotted pages, which enables you to create your own system! You can try something new out each week, to check if it is working for you. Not ideal? Switch it up next week! This gives you not only all the freedom you need, but also full control over your own organization and system. This way you will be more aware of how you are planning, and it will stick with you.
Excitement about planning!
When the system is finally working for you, bullet journaling will be something you will look forward to. Whenever I am at school or work and I think about things to do, or a fun trip I want to plan, I can’t wait to get home to write it down in my journal. With a bullet journal, you will get excited about planning, and you will be more structured than you could ever imagine. You will learn about time management, planning ahead, and plan in a creative way as well. Just let the ideas flow. And remember, mistakes are meant to be made! Otherwise we can never learn.
Are you just as excited as I am about bullet journaling? I hope you are! Let me know in the comments below, and don’t forget to share the pictures of your journal!
