QS has ranked MIT the best university in the world (once again). It obtained the maximum score across all six key factors, including Academic Reputation, Citations per Faculty and Employer Reputation. MIT is the world’s leading university for many subjects including computer science, engineering and technology, chemistry, and econometrics. It is also known for inspiring entrepreneurship. Over 25,000 active companies have been founded by MIT alumni, including big players like Intel and Dropbox.
Stanford University is runner up for best University in the world and made it into the top 5 universities across all disciplines. Known for its prestige, Stanford University’s undergraduate program is the most selective in America with an acceptance rate of only 4.8%. Having graduated more than 30 living billionaires, 17 astronauts and over 60 Nobel Laureates, they are a force to be reckoned with. Stanford also ranked 1st for Graduate Employability rating.
Harvard University is America’s oldest university and is known for its wealth, rich history and powerful influence. This Ivy league school ranked 3rd in the world and 1st for it’s Medicine/Life Sciences and Social Sciences programs. Fun fact, eight of the signors of the Declaration of Independence attended Harvard University. Nowadays, Harvard is known for it’s more recent attendees, like Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg and ex POTUS Barack Obama.
The California Institute of Technology may be small, but it is not to be underestimated. It only enrolls about 2,250 students each year. This powerful research University was founded by an astronomer, a physicist and a chemist. It comes as no surprise that Caltech is the workplace for the characters on popular television series The Big Bang theory. They even filmed an episode on Campus that featured Stephen Hawking. Caltech scored the 5th spot for world’s best university.
Ranked 5th in the US and 10th in the world, U of Chicago is a private University with only a little over 15,000 students. However, they are at the forefront of research with over 140 research centers in addition to plenty of partnerships. The University of Chicago is famous for it’s interesting admission essay prompts. If you plan to apply, prepare yourself for an essay on something like “So where is Waldo, really?” or “Find X.”. Good Luck.
