Ultimate Holiday Desserts any Student Can Make

Impressing your holiday guests (or even just your parents while you’re home for the break) doesn’t have to be expensive – these delicious holiday desserts are friendly on your budget, easy for beginners, and can be whipped up in no time! Bake them for your friends, family, or even just for yourself as you cram for those last exams. Either way, these amazing desserts are sure to please.

Classic Rocky Road Fudge Bars

What you’ll need:

  • 1 bag chocolate chips of your choice
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 cups mini marshmallows
  • 1 1/2 cups nuts of your choice

How to make it:

  • Line baking pan with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
  • Mix chocolate chips and condensed milk. Heat in microwave for 60 seconds and stir. Repeat at 15 seconds intervals, until completely melted and smooth.
  • Mix in marshmallows and peanuts.
  • Refrigerate for one hour, cut into squares, and enjoy!

Rudolph Marshmallow Pops

What you’ll need:

  • marshmallows
  • 2 cups chocolate of your choice
  • pretzels
  • sprinkles or round decorations (nose and eyes)
  • Popsicle/lollipop sticks (or candy canes!)  and foam to poke in and let cool

How to make it:

  • Poke marshmallows onto sticks
  • Melt chocolate in microwave in 15 second intervals, stirring in between until smooth
  • Dip marshmallows in chocolate and let cool/dry
  • While still sticky, stick on sprinkles as eyes and a red sprinkle as the nose
  • Chop pretzels and stick into top of marshmallow as antlers

Shortbread Cookies

What you’ll need:

  • 2 cups unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

How to make it:

  • Preheat oven to 325F
  • Beat together butter and sugar until fluffy
  • Add 3 1/2 cup flour and mix until combined
  • Spread 1/2 cup flour on counter top and knead dough until soft and play-dough like (about 5 minutes) and chill for 30 minutes
  • roll out dough and cut into fun shapes!
  • Bake 15-20 minutes and decorate!

Choco Peanut Butter Pretzels

What you’ll need:

  • 1 bag of Pretzels
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2  teaspoon vegetable or canola oil
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter chips

How to make it:

  • Combine chocolate chips and 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil in a bowl, heat for 30 seconds and stir. Repeat in 15 second intervals until melted and smooth
  • Dip pretzels in chocolate and place on wax or parchment paper to let cool
  • Combine peanut butter chips and 1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil in bowl and melt as you did the chocolate
  • Drizzle over top of cooled pretzels using a spoon or fork

Rice Krispies Christmas Trees

What you’ll need:

  • 3 cups rice krispies cereal
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate
  • 10 oz marshmallows
  • green food coloring
  • Sprinkles
  • Powdered sugar
  • Small chocolate pieces for tree trunks (optional)

How to make it:

  • Melt marshmallows, butter and white chocolate in microwave for 15 seconds, stir, and repeat until smooth.
  • In large bowl, combine melted mixture, rice krispies cereals and few drops of coloring and mix until combined
  • Let cool for 15 min, then return to shape pieces into cones for trees
  • Put sprinkles as tree ornaments and dust with powdered sugar for snowy effect
  • Place on chocolate piece (optional) or stand, and let cool for one hour

Snowball Cookies

What you’ll need:

  • 1 box white cake mix
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 3 egg whites
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • powdered sugar (optional)

How to make it:

  • Preheat oven to 350 F
  • Mix cake mix, egg whites, oil and cream cheese until well combined and chill 30 minutes
  • Roll into balls and roll through powdered sugar (optional)
  • Bake for 9-11 minutes until tops start to crack – don’t let them get brown!
  • Dust with powdered sugar (optional)

Peanut Butter Fudge Bars

What you’ll need:

  • 1 1/2 cups Reese Peanut Butter chips (or regular peanut butter chips)
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips of your choice
  • 1/2 cup Reese mini’s (or smarties if you don’t have Reeses!)
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk

How to make it:

  • Line baking dish with foil and cooking spray or with parchment paper
  • Combine peanut butter chips and 1/2 can of condensed milk, microwave for 45 seconds and stir until melted.
  • Quickly transfer to the lined baking dish and spread evenly, refrigerate for one hour
  • After peanut butter fudge layer has set, melt chocolate chips and remaining condensed milk in microwave as you did the peanut butter chips.
  • Spread melted mixture over peanut butter layer and sprinkle with Reese’s mini pieces.
  • Refrigerate for 2 hours, cut into squares and enjoy!
